"75% less dependent on Arab Oil" by 2025
Bushie promised that in his SOTU speech.
Top 5 oil-importing-to-US Nations:
1. Canada
2. Mexico
3. Saudi Arabia
4. Nigeria
5. Venezuela.
(fun fact list courtesy NPR, checked against DOE website).
So if we're 75% less dependent on Arab oil, does that mean we can still be dependent on the other 85% of the foreign oil we're dependent on now? And the 19 year window? File this all under "underwhelming policy initiatives." Nice to see the Republicans are learning to think small... maybe we won't invade Syria or Iran after all.

our brilliant prez
he's apparently going to announce that the country is 'addicted to oil', and propose some solutions. that should be interesting since he's never been able to bring himself to use the word 'conserve' and he would never allow the guv-mint to interfere with biz-ness by insisting that they develop cars that USE LESS FUEL! a veritable corner he's painted himself into. or has he? I won't be watching. the mere thought of it is making me highly cranky. I will rely upon NPR to tell me the low-lights in the morning.
RTA FYI
Hey EFFL'ers... due to the CNR server getting overwhelmed and unable to handle its email load, i'm switching my normal contact email to jspagna A-T berkeley D-O-T (extension used for college/university addresses)
You could be the first person other than me to send email to my new address. Maybe there will be a prize.

Not random
For me, because I'd get the same few blogs repeatedly. I never saw the wingnut stuff. Just strange pseudophilosophical not-quite-rantings about, whatever. One was about weed, one about cigarettes and impotence, another about paying off your mortgage. But written without any passion or much connection to anything anyone would give 1/2 a rat about, at least not the way they were written. As if they were faked blog posts... somebody writing a few paragraphs about something they think someone else might blog about.
What is "documentlocation" anyway? Why were you going there?

documentlocation
First, it kept going to the same blog, which was a creepy right wing fascist blog with no signs that it was actually a part of blogger. Then, it would just give random blogs, in the same way that the "next blog" link on the top of the page does, and now it just give a 404 error. It must have been a hackjob.

Yes, jumbos, it is strange.
Explanation?
I especially like how it makes the "back" button go to other oddball bloggish pages.

adsense
i think we make money only if the many visitors to our site click on the ads. are we trying to lure more people to view our site in order to get money? I think we probably will make pennies, if that, and it will clutter up the site unnecessarily.
Adsense

check it out. it is hard to tell whether we'll make any money.

I've always wanted to sell out
but nobody was buying. I just read about the adsense thing in the Contra Costa paper the other day. Realistically, how much $ could we expect to make?
Ads for the blog
What do you all think if we put Google Ads on this blog? I will get the cash and distribute equally among all members, or just put it in a cookie jar in my room and when we get enough for a full Berks reunion I will purchase you all plane tickets. That should happen oh, around year 2053.

tends to have pretty good posts, when he posts. I think we should invite him.

... haven't worked out well for me this season. But I think with the board, it's the more the merrier, so go ahead. Do you like the choice of fronts I gave you? Posting pictures is fun and easy.

Blogger appearance sux
When I log on I see the subject line of the most-recent post @ top of screen (e.g. 'Blogger appearance sux') then have to scroll past the sidebar on the right to see the post, which is usually past the bottom of the window. Retarded. Is there a way to change the screen view on Blogger?

you don't have to include a link to the EFFL blog everytime you post. cool picture of la Tour Eiffel.
a veritable firestorm
of controversy on the OP calculations. Awesome.
1 String Asian Fiddle guy was back in action last week. Fortunately he was making ears bleed at street level (Shattuck and Central) which does two good things: it allows me to escape into the station, and sends all the sparechangers in front of my ATM at Washington Mutual screaming home to People's Park, Berkeley High, or Walnut Creek.

Hmmmm
I don't give a rat's ass how we calculate the OP, as long as Jumbos keeps coming out on top. That's nice to see.
I do realize that LOTTIA has the highest OP of all of us, though.

I used the OP formula
that Parham gave (not the one Yahoo! says it uses) on all my league results and was able to recreate the OP% that Yahoo! lists.
I agree that it would be better to have something that goes to 100.
I agree that multiplying by the number of teams played on is definitely wrong. among other things, you can't get a percentage that way.

Effl OP and beef
Ok, my effl OP is 45%.
However I have an issue with your proposed methodology.
If you came in 1st and there are 10 in your league, with your formula,
you score .9. It seems like 100% should be the score for winning a league.
It should be ((B+1)-A)/B. In that case, my effl op is 55%. I like that better.
I know it's just an index, but I my point is that "average" is a bit less than 50% the way we're doing it.

My mistake
I calculated my own OP based on some mistaken assumptions. I thought I had to exclude some public leagues and include only "evolution" leagues. But it did that for me, I think, in my OP rating at the top of my profile.
bottomline, my OP is 52%. Better than average, if only just, right?

Combined Performance
...in all leagues / tourneys flying the "evolution" flag.
Don't care to break it down any further. My endless, semi-clever posting is an ongoing attempt to cover for disappointing league performance.

my OP ranks
.466 = 46%
something like that. My only trophy is from a "public" league that a chicken trained for tic-tac-toe could have won.
Most Embarassing Name:
Berkeley City Council
seemed like a good idea at the time?

bradshaw
granted, I didn't see the interview, but it was probably only the worst interview he has done this week. and there will be plenty of opportunities for him to lower the bar between now and the XL-bowl.
Kobe, Seahawks
I hate the rapist. I dont' care how many points he scores. And I bet his teammates are not thrilled to be on his team.
I thought Terry Bradshaw's interview on the winner's stand--first Paul Allen, then Holmgren, then Hasselbeck, then Alexander--was so fucking painful. It may have been the worst interview I have ever seen.

Kobe-- 81 points -- anybody see that?
Just wondering. It's kind of mindblowing to read about. I don't think he ever scored more than 60 previously. Not that I'm a Kobe fan, but, I am a fan of superhuman sports accomplishments.
aint's
he's still posting over on the FFL board. should someone tell him about the EFFL blog?

Basketball
I think it's fair to say Cal's chances got a lot better with the 30 point blowout over AZ State. Arizona is a different story, obviously, but maybe that win provides some momentum. I read an interesting article about how Cal's consistency has not matched their talent over the last few years. True, except for the consistently losing to Stanford.
Also, I would like to actually attend a game with some fellow still-Berkeley-living fans if anyone is interested.
